- A Good Night's Sleep on Purpose
It is Day 4 of vacationing in Cabo San Lucas! I have been enjoying my time at the resort. Getting my morning cardio and lots of extra steps. I am not a big swimmer, but I love to move around in the beautiful pool here. I am diligent about staying hydrated. But what about sleep? Yesterday after noon I went zip-lining. it was fun and it was a lot of exercise. We had to walk up to the tops of the courses in the hot afternoon sun. I realized last night; my body was tired. My head was wide awake. I assume it was from all the excitement; All that adrenaline rushing through my body each time I went soaring over the canyons. About 9 or 9:30 last night I decided I'd better dim the lights and start relaxing. I was still wide awake and not in my natural state of "ready for bed" by 8pm. It dawned on me I hadn't closed my day the way I usually do. I hadn't set myself up for a good night's sleep. I decided, I better continue my nighttime routine because sleep is so important for our health and wellbeing. Here are a few things to try... I use a gratitude journal but just writing a few lines about your day works well. If you have a busy day tomorrow, or there is something important you have to do write that out. If it wakes you up at night you can remind yourself. "I've got that handled." Dim the lights and relax intentionally. I used to run around and do my last-minute things right before I got in bed. Doesn’t work to well for relaxation. A warm bath or shower, especially with lavender or some other relaxing aroma. Ahhh. Try a few minutes of reading- something that isn't too exciting. I put my phone on Do Not Disturb at 730. I love talking to friends and family but conversations can be stimulating and not conducive to sleep. FYI - You can set it so some calls will come through. I want to get the calls from my kids. They will only call at night if it's important. Find what works for you. Be consistent. My body and mind don’t know I am on vacation. I think going off the evening routine failed to signal my head it was time for bed. Once I did these things, I am suggesting for you, I went right to sleep. Live on Purpose, Peggy Romero
- It's Tulip Time
It's Tulip time in Pella, Iowa! I love this little town that I call home in the summer. It reminds me of what I believe Mayberry RFD would have been like if it were not a fictitious place. There is virtually no crime here and the people are friendly and kind, for the most part. It feels as if everything moves at a very slow pace. Naturally that sometimes drives me crazy because I'm not used to it. I am used to the fast pace of city life. But I love it here. It feels like home. This coming week is the annual Tulip Time festival. It seems the whole town almost shuts down for it. The town is already full of tourists taking pictures of thousands of tulips that are filling the parks and lining the city streets. I went to the printer the other day and there's a sign saying that they close at noon every day during Tulip time. My daughter works for Pella Window and Doors. They will not be hosting tours during Tulip Time. I suppose logistically it would make it harder because there are so many tourists here. Also, this is a hometown company. I believe that they participate in many of the activities that are happening in town. Everywhere you go people are talking about Tulip time. There was a hanger on our door telling us that the Klompen Classic will be walking right by our house. The Klompen classic is a 5k walk/ run that supports Crossroads of Pella. They asked if we would play music and set out lawn chairs, invite our friends over and cheer on the walkers as they go by. How fun! Of course, I will. 😊 At the gym I go to they asked that we all wear our Tulip time T-shirts. They would like to get a group photo together of my fit for life class to post in the newspaper and on their Facebook page. I love this kind of stuff. I stopped by the Pella bookstore which is a landmark here. I asked if I could set up a spot and do a book signing while there are all these many thousands of people in town. There are other local authors doing the same thing and it was nice to be totally welcomed. So I will be doing a book signing at Pella books next Thursday and Friday I am extremely grateful and equally excited about it. I will get to meet lots of people and hopefully sell lots of books. Finally! Becoming Who You Were Always Meant to Be - Peggy Romero Book Signing at Pella Books Thursday, May 4 - Friday, May 5, 2023 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM 824 Franklin Street, Pella, Iowa 50219 Meet the Author (me!) at Pella Books this week and purchase your a personally autographed copy of my book. Paperback books are available at $15 and Hardcovers at $20. Since I was so readily accepted there it gave me the confidence to go into a new store in town called the Timeless Tulip. My idea, again, was completely welcomed by the owner Cheyenna. I asked her if I could do a book talk and a book signing and she was happy to accommodate me. That event will be on June 3rd. I am so looking forward to it. What a nice way to meet people while stepping out of my comfort zone. I am so thankful for the opportunity. I have spoken to people about this little town that I've been coming to for the past five years. They tell me that's how all small towns are in middle America. I cannot say this from experience, but I find it hard to imagine. To be honest with you this town feels like you're living in a Hallmark movie. It is so easy to relax and be mindful. I can live in the present moment much easier when life has slowed down like this. I believe this place is a very special place unlike other towns in the Midwest or otherwise. - Hybrid Medical Solutions
Something you may not know about me... is that I fly all the way to Florida to see a doctor. Why? I'll tell you: For many years I have tried to find a doctor that would listen to me (and really listen to me) and not just prescribe me a pill, or hear how I'm feeling and decide that I just need counseling or therapy. It may seem a little crazy... but therapy isn't going to stop me from being a little emotional and waking up all night with sweats and hot flashes. My doctor in Boca Raton, Florida, came highly recommended and after five, maybe six appointments thus far, he's proven to be worth the trip across the country. He truly listens and I love his approach to try natural means first, and prescribe as little medication as possible. He also takes his time and does not rush to get out of the room with you. My first visit was either 45 minutes or an hour. I was so surprised. He asked so many questions and then said “What else?” - I remember saying “What do you mean what else? I thought you’d be in and out in 10 minutes. I really wasn’t prepared for this.” He was thorough and has been during each and every visit with no rush. The first time I saw him he told me I could get a higher dose of blood pressure medication or choose to go for a walk. I chose the walk. And at this point in my life, I am only taking a natural thyroid medication. Nothing else! This helped me realize I was in the right place! I believe in medicine. Yes. But I also believe in wellness and the less chemicals in my body the better. This is why this clinic works so well for me. They will always offer natural means first. Diet and exercise can sometimes cure you. I would rather try this first instead of just masking the symptoms. A mask just covers things up. It doesn't fix the problem. Thanks to my walk in the evening instead of excepting a higher dose, I have since lost 57 pounds. The walk turned into daily cardio and strength training 5 times a week. Working out helps remind me not to “eat the cookie” and have a cup of tea or sugar free Jell-O instead. I am truly grateful, and feel that my well-being is something that my doctor truly cares about. He remembers who I am, and that matters. I now chose my insurance carrier just to accommodate him. He is an “in-network provider” on my plan, even though I live in Oregon and he is in Florida. Now, this isn't an advertisement. Truly. It's a post to share the importance of having great care and feeling as though your well-being is taken care of. And if you're interested in doing your own research, know that I do highly recommend Hybrid Medical Solutions and seeing Dr. Brian Moraes. I am also confident that the other practitioners at Hybrid are just as wonderful. Live on Purpose, Peggy Romero
- A Simple Note
I recently received an email that stopped me in my tracks and made me realize just how much I have changed as a person... Hello Peggy, Your thoughtfulness is a gift I will always treasure. I am very much grateful for that kind and warm approach you gave on the call. Best regards, Jane H. A couple of years ago, I never would have received an email such as this. The Peggy Romero I was then, didn't live with presence. She was always in a hurry, trying to get the next thing done. She certainly would not have been listening or understanding of a Customer Service Representative from Amazon... I hate to admit it, but the Peggy Romero I was wouldn't have even cared what the rep was saying... only that the situation was handled and handled quickly. I realize for many of you this may mean nothing; but for me it is a momentous occasion! I am blessed by this simple note expressing her gratitude. It reveals the way we are in this world. We aren’t always nice; we aren’t always kind. We certainly are not patient, unless we are aware of what we're doing. I didn't do anything outstanding or outside of the ordinary, I was just kind and respectful to a customer service girl who was trying her best and not able to accommodate me very easily. Unfortunately, this shows that most people do not treat her the way we should. It was outside what she expected, and she thought enough about it that she actually sent me a thank you note. You guys, this is a thank you note for being nice. Can we decide to just be nice? Be good. Be kind. I have changed and I know you can too. Practice makes perfect. Here is a passage that caught my heart several years ago. I decided I wanted to go around doing good too! I am committed to it. In the big things and the small. This little thank you tells me that it is working! I am going around being good to people. Acts 10:38 And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. I hope we will all take a moment every morning and purposefully connect to our heart, to our true self, to the person we really want to be. Decide to show kindness and compassion to everyone we meet and everyone we see every day. This would change the world. It would lift us up. Put a smile on our faces. Can you imagine? You know smiles are contagious, kindness is contagious. A little love is like a breath of fresh air. Just consider this post. I was nice to her, she brought it to my attention. This made me so happy, it raised my energy. If you are reading this it will probably make you smile, so now I'm bringing the higher vibration to your attention. And you may be kind to someone else. Hold a door, a wink, a nod of approval. It is just so easy to be a blessing. This, my friends, is how we create a shift in the planet. God bless you, have a great day! Let’s try to remember to live every day on purpose. Peggy Romero
- Saving Money on Groceries
Over the years, I have developed some highly effective financial habits. I prioritize saving money and avoiding unnecessary expenses. For this month's finance blog on Peggy with Purpose, I believe it would be valuable to discuss a few of these habits. Remember, creating change takes time, so don't overwhelm yourself by trying to do everything at once. Instead, start by contemplating some of the ideas shared below. When I was young and just starting out with my own family, I used to carefully study advertisements from three different grocery stores located within a mile or two of my house. While this meant spending a little extra on gas by visiting multiple stores, the savings I gained far outweighed that expense. At that time, I used to babysit six kids, providing them with breakfast and snacks every weekday, in addition to taking care of my own family's grocery needs. Consequently, saving money became of utmost importance to me at a young age. Looking back, I don't believe my parents followed a budget. They have passed away, so I cannot confirm this for certain. However, I distinctly remember running out of food and money before the next paycheck arrived. Payday was a significant event, often accompanied by a special treat or a fun outing. As a young girl, I vowed that when I grew up and had children of my own, I wouldn't let that happen. The motivation behind this commitment could have been any number of things. One memory that particularly resonates with me is the promise I made to myself “I will always have enough good food for my kids.” While I must admit that at times, I tend to stock up on food excessively, I have never found myself running out. Here are a couple of ways I save money on groceries: Plan your meals ahead of time: By planning your meals in advance, you can save a substantial amount of money on food. As someone who enjoys cooking and experimenting with new recipes, I make everything from scratch. This practice significantly cuts down costs. Once you have stocked your pantry with essential items, you can create a variety of dishes. To make the most of your budget, purchase pantry staples when they are on sale. For instance, I always make sure to buy plenty of rice, beans, and pasta when they are discounted. I also take advantage of meat sales and buy more than I currently need if it's an excellent deal. This way, I can easily access these ingredients whenever I crave a particular meal. You can find several easy and healthy recipes on my website, https://www.peggywithpurpose.com/blog/tags/recipes I have a slight preference for specific brands, but I'm open to trying store brands, as they often meet my expectations. Sometimes, however, they may not match up to the original brand. Regardless, I believe it's worth giving them a chance at least once to see for yourself, as there are often significant savings to be had. Another important money-saving tip is to make use of leftovers. If you don't want to eat the exact same meal again, you can easily jazz it up. Personally, I enjoy making a simple change. For instance, when I prepare beef stew, I intentionally make a larger batch to have leftovers. Instead of having stew again, I add a bag of frozen mixed vegetables and place it in a pie crust to make a beef pot pie. It transforms into a different dinner altogether, and it's absolutely delicious. I also make pot pies using leftover chicken. Speaking of chicken, one of the best bargains I've found is purchasing rotisserie chicken from Costco or Sam's Club. At just $5, it's an amazing price, and a family of four can enjoy it at least twice. I take pleasure in planting my own herb garden. As soon as I arrive in Arizona each fall, I promptly plant them in pots. I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago when I arrived in Iowa. I particularly love basil, thyme, and rosemary. Since I frequently use cilantro to make salsa, this year I'm trying my hand at cilantro as well. You don't need to be an expert gardener; all you require is sunlight, and water. I love to buy it once and enjoy it multiple times. By implementing these practices, you can save money while enjoying delicious meals. We spend money on food every single day. Having good practices can really make a difference. Being mindful of your spending habits and making small changes can go a long way in improving your financial well-being. Remember, developing healthy financial habits is a gradual process. Start by incorporating small changes into your routine and build upon them over time. By adopting these practices, you can enhance your financial well-being and achieve long-term stability. Stay tuned for more financial tips and insights in next month's blog post. I have a complementary budgeting tool called Pennies with Purpose. My gift to you. Live every day on purpose, Peggy Romero
- Costs of a Car
Let's talk about everyone's favorite topic: car costs. Buckle up because I've got some practical tips to help you save those hard-earned dollars. Ready? Let's hit the road! Where you fill up matters. I know that there are different apps that you can use on your phone. But I am a big fan of Costco gas. Especially if you drive a lot the membership price alone is worth paying because of the savings you will get. I've always been a person who drives a lot of miles, so I know it has saved me a lot of money. Challenge yourself to get better gas mileage. Picture this: Every time you hit the brakes, you're basically wasting the gas you just burned to reach your current speed. Crazy, right? So, here's the deal—try to embrace a smoother driving style. Accelerate gently and avoid the constant stop-and-go of congested traffic. Not only will this boost your gas mileage, but it'll also make you a safer driver. Insurance is a major component of car costs. As a former Allstate insurance agent, I can tell you, safe drivers pay much less for their insurance premiums. You will also avoid out of pocket collision repair costs. Ideally if it's not your fault you have zero out of pocket expense. I encourage you to understand your insurance policy. Most insurance agents are happy to do an annual policy review with you. If they are not willing to help you understand what you are paying for and why then my advice would be to find a new agent. Having the right insurance is very important to your financial future. You don't ever want to find out that you don't have the right insurance when you need it. When I was an agent I took this very seriously. You don't want the cheapest policy. You want the correct coverage for the best price. So when shopping for insurance make sure that you are not reducing your coverage just to save money. You don't want $100,000 accident, only to find out you've only got $25,000 in coverage. Choose the right tires. Now, I know what you're thinking—new tires can be a pain in the wallet. But here's a little secret: some tires are specifically designed to improve fuel economy. They're called low rolling resistance tires, and they're like the superheroes of the tire world. Just make sure to check their safety ratings for different weather conditions. Safety first, my friends! Sell your car yourself If you're thinking of parting ways with your trusty ride, consider selling it privately. Why, you ask? Well, the demand for used cars is sky-high these days, especially for older vehicles with higher mileage. And guess what? Private sales usually fetch more cash than what a dealer would offer you in a trade-in deal. So, before you make a move on that shiny new car, negotiate its price separately from the trade-in. This way, you'll know the true value of your old wheels before letting the dealer make an offer. I call my bank and check with Kelly Blue book, so I know the true value. Consider a hybrid. Hold onto your seats because this one might surprise you. Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more affordable as traditional gas prices keep climbing. Yep, you heard me right! Investing in an electric car could actually make financial sense. I read that if you drive around 12,000 miles a year, you can expect to break even within a couple of years compared to a similar gas-powered model. Plus, charging at home is cheaper than using public charging stations. But hey, if you're on the road a lot, fear not—there are handy apps that'll guide you to free charging stations. Not ready to go all electric? Me either! I have a Kia Nero. It still gets 50 miles a gallon because it uses the battery much of the time. Best of all I don't use a charging station. The batteries recharge themselves, so I don't ever have to plug it in. I love it. Knowing when to change your oil is your responsibility. The recommended oil change intervals mentioned on the sticker are general guidelines, and it's always important to refer to the owner's manual for specific instructions regarding oil change frequency. Many newer cars indeed use synthetic oil, which typically lasts longer than conventional oil and can often go up to 5,000 miles or more between changes. However, it's important to note that this can vary depending on the make and model of your vehicle, as well as your driving conditions. As for aftermarket oil additives, it's generally unnecessary to use them if your car's engine is running smoothly and you're using the recommended oil for your vehicle. Modern engine oils already contain a balanced blend of additives that are designed to provide optimal lubrication and protection for the engine components. Using additional aftermarket additives may not provide any significant benefits and could potentially disrupt the carefully formulated balance of the oil. It's always best to follow the manufacturer's recommendations outlined in the owner's manual for oil change intervals and to use the recommended oil type to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your vehicle's engine. Taking good care of your car is the best advice I could ever give anyone. In conclusion, I believe that these tips will inspire you to approach your financial goals with greater creativity. It's important to remember that you can't achieve everything all at once. However, by taking baby steps and remaining committed, you will steadily progress towards your objectives. I’m sure you're eager to embark on your financial journey and may need assistance, I would be delighted to offer my support. - From Stress to Success
Boost your Well-Being and Creativity Embrace your true self fearlessly! Self-expression is the extraordinary path that allows us to share our innermost thoughts, emotions, and ideas, liberated from the shackles of others' opinions and judgments. By embracing self-expression, we unlock a world of endless possibilities that not only alleviate stress and anxiety, but also ignite our spirits and fuel our creativity. Join me as we delve into the profound benefits of self-expression and its profound impact on mental health, overall well-being, and the boundless realm of creativity. Diminishing the Burdens of Stress and Anxiety Self-expression emerges as a magnificent tool in alleviating stress and anxiety. When we confine our emotions within, the weight becomes overwhelming, leaving us feeling anxious, frustrated, and drowning in our own thoughts. The act of expressing ourselves liberates that tension, offering solace and relaxation, and in certain cases, even pure happiness. Personally, I am an ardent advocate of journaling, for it enables us to release and let go of the programs and fears that we've been carrying throughout our life. Additionally, exploring art forms like music, dance, drawing or maybe just conversing with trusted friends serves as simple yet profound ways to express our innermost selves. Experimental studies have demonstrated that journaling, in particular, possesses immense therapeutic potential, effectively managing anxiety and stress levels. Through the act of transcribing our thoughts onto paper, we unburden ourselves from the emotional weight that can otherwise wreak havoc on our mental and physical well-being. Furthermore, this practice allows us to identify negative thought patterns, which we can then challenge and reshape. When you can see the negative thoughts, you can replace them with positive ones. Consequently, we attain newfound clarity and perspective, fostering a sense of control over our lives. Embarking on the Journey of Self-Confidence Self-expression serves as a gateway to unshakable self-confidence. As we authentically express ourselves through creative outlets, we validate our ideas, opinions, and values. This validation nourishes our self-esteem, rendering us more resilient in the face of criticism or rejection. Each step we take towards embracing our true selves fuels our courage and places us firmly in the Green Zone. It's crucial to remember that our endeavors are never for the approval of others; rather, they are driven by our own inner compass and purpose. Our journey is our own and it must be for ourselves. Elevating the Spirit Creativity emanates from the depths of our hearts, where imagination and wonder reside. The heart is the creation mind where you can connect to the Holy Spirit. Among the numerous advantages of self-expression, it stands as a remarkable mood-booster. Engaging in creative activities, be it drawing, playing music, or writing, activates the pleasure centers of our brain, leading to the release of dopamine, the hormone of happiness. This surge of dopamine infuses us with optimism, energy, and motivation, resulting in an overall sense of joy and contentment. Nurturing Innovative Thinking Remaining deeply connected to our hearts and embracing the power of imagination, self-expression becomes a catalyst for personal growth. Exploring various forms of self-expression amplifies our problem-solving skills. By engaging in creative activities, we encourage our brains to break free from conventional thinking, opening doors to innovative solutions. This "outside the box" mindset empowers us to approach challenges from diverse angles, unveiling fresh strategies and perspectives. Such thinking proves invaluable, benefiting both our personal and professional endeavors. Embracing Mindfulness Self-expression acts as a conduit to mindfulness. As we immerse ourselves in creative activities, our focus naturally aligns with the present moment, and we find ourselves enveloped in a state of flow. This heightened level of concentration transcends mere work; it becomes a seamless outpouring from our hearts. In this state of mindful absorption, worries and anxieties fade away, bestowing upon us a profound sense of inner peace and tranquility. Complementing the practice of self-expression with meditation further hones our ability to remain present and mindful throughout the day. We make much better decisions in the Green Zone than in the Red Zone. Please go to my website Peggy romero.com and get your copy of the Stress Mastery Energies document. There you will find a more comprehensive explanation of the Red Zone and Green Zone energies. Understanding where you are currently, will help you get to where you’d like to be when it comes to mindfulness. Manifesting Your Imagination As part of my daily Green Focus Power Hour, I dedicate ten minutes each morning to envisioning my ideal life. However, this practice goes beyond mere visualization; I wholeheartedly connect with my innermost desires. I can actually feel myself living the life that I truly desire. I am in that life right at that moment, and it feels incredible. Engaging in self-expression fuels the creative process, inviting our minds to wander, explore, and experiment. Through this sacred journey, we unearth fresh ideas, perspectives, and solutions that would otherwise elude us. This newfound creativity expands our horizons, fosters innovation, and empowers us to gracefully adapt to change. Before retiring for the night, I revisit this practice once more, reaping its remarkable rewards. In conclusion, dear reader, I invite you to embark on a transformative journey of self-expression. Embrace the liberating power of being your authentic self, fearlessly sharing your thoughts, emotions, and ideas with the world. By cultivating self-expression, you not only alleviate the burdens of stress and anxiety but also nurture a deep sense of self-confidence, paving the way for personal growth and resilience. Engaging in creative activities and exploring the vast realm of digital expression will uplift your spirits, ignite your imagination, and infuse your life with boundless joy. Moreover, self-expression serves as a gateway to innovative thinking, allowing you to approach challenges from fresh perspectives and unlock creative solutions. - Exercise Your Mind Muscles
Exercise Your Mind Muscles: Boost Brain Health and Enhance Your Life It's time to give your gray matter the workout it deserves and unlock its full potential. Just like our bodies, our brains need regular exercise to stay sharp, agile, and functioning at their best. In this blog post, we'll explore five powerful strategies that can supercharge your brain health and improve your overall well-being. Exercise Your Mind Muscles Use it or lose it! Your brain needs regular workouts to stay sharp and agile. Challenge yourself with mental exercises and activities that stimulate brain activity and improve memory retention. Check out the daily paper. There are puzzles every day. Yes, you can also find them online. I enjoy puzzles like crosswords, sudoku, and word games. They can provide an excellent mental workout. Alternatively, consider learning a new skill or language, playing a musical instrument, or delving into strategic games like chess. These activities not only offer mental stimulation but also enhance your cognitive abilities. Surprisingly, you can even engage your brain in everyday situations by challenging your senses. How about brushing your teeth with your eyes closed or using your non-dominant hand while showering? Spice up your routine by taking different routes to work or the grocery store or mixing up the order in which you put on your clothes. Try it. It is always good to get out of your comfort zone Embrace the Power of Physical Activity Get Moving! When it comes to giving your brain a boost, don't underestimate the power of regular physical exercise. Not only does it keep your body fit and strong, but it also works wonders for your gray matter! Engaging in any form of physical activity increases blood flow to the brain, promotes the growth of new neurons, and enhances cognitive function. Believe it or not, even a brisk walk can do wonders for your brain. It triggers the release of proteins, which acts as a lifeline for existing neurons and encourages the growth of new ones. And the benefits don't stop there! Aerobic exercises like walking facilitate the generation of fresh neurons as well. I go to a Fit 4 Life class that challenges us to do all different types of steps. And then she makes us change the direction. It works the brain too! Find things that work for you. Fuel Your Brain with a Nourishing Diet Oh so good! To unlock your brain's full potential, it's crucial to nourish it with the right foods. A healthy and well-balanced diet can work wonders for brain health and memory enhancement. Focus on incorporating foods that are rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins into your meals. Avocados, nuts, fish, leafy greens, and whole grains are excellent choices to consider. It is summertime so don't forget the magic of berries! These small powerhouses contain flavonoids like anthocyanin, which help cleanse the brain of inflammatory debris that can contribute to conditions like Alzheimer's. Aim for at least half a cup of berries per day, whether fresh or frozen. Your brain will thank you! Indulge in the Magic of Quality Sleep I love my sleep! If there's one thing you shouldn't compromise on when it comes to brain health, it's a good night's sleep. During sleep, your brain processes information, strengthens memories, and clears out toxins. You might have noticed that after an intense TV show or a deep discussion, your sleep quality isn't the same. (Trust me, I've been there too!) That's because your brain is actively working on organizing and assimilating those experiences while you sleep. Lack of sufficient sleep not only impairs cognitive function but also affects attention span and memory recall. Aim for a solid 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to allow your brain to recharge and function optimally. I wear a ring called Oura to track my sleep. It has helped me determine what works for my best night’s rest and recuperation. I have learned from experience the importance of establishing a soothing bedtime routine to create an environment conducive to sleep. This has worked wonders for me. Closing the day properly will change your life. Starting the day fresh and rested makes all things better. Nurture Connections and Flourish Stay connected! Social interaction and emotional well-being play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy brain. Engaging in meaningful conversations, spending quality time with loved ones, and participating in social activities all stimulate our cognitive processes and enhance memory. As we get older. we may no longer have the built-in social interactions that came with our children's activities or going to work every day. However, that doesn't mean we can't seek out new opportunities to connect with others! Extend an invitation to a friend for a lunch outing (everyone loves being invited!), or consider joining a Bible study, book club, or walking group. I have met wonderful people at my fitness classes. In Arizona I have dinner with friends and play cards and other games. If you have a hobby you're passionate about, make sure to allocate time for it! Engaging in activities that bring you joy not only nourishes your own well-being but also blesses those around you. Remember, it's never too late to prioritize your brain's well-being. Start implementing these strategies today to enhance your cognitive abilities, improve memory retention, and sharpen your mind. Challenge yourself to stay physically active, make sleep a priority, nourish your body with a healthy diet and drink lots of water. Cherish and nourish your social and spiritual connections. The outcome? A revitalized brain and a zest for life! Remember live every day on purpose! Peggy Romero

- Aging with Grace
Aging with Grace Hello fabulous readers! Welcome to my blog, where we're all living on purpose and experiencing peace every day! I am also about living life to the fullest and aging gracefully. I feel great and I intend to feel even better in the future. Today, I want to share with you a few tips for embracing the passage of time with style, sass, and a whole lot of fun. So sit back, relax, no matter your age, this is for you. You can only control what you can control: You are in charge of how you start your day, how are you close your day. What you eat and drink, your exercise routine, when you sleep and how you handle the conflicts that arise throughout the day. Don't spend your time worrying about things that you cannot change. Just take care of yourself and the things you can control. Water, the elixir of life: Water is essential for our well-being. Moat days I drink a gallon. It is the magical potion that quenches our thirst, nourishes our bodies, and sustains every cell and system within us. From the moment we wake up to the moments before sleep, water is our constant companion, revitalizing and rejuvenating us throughout the day. It regulates our body temperature, aids in digestion, flushes out toxins, and keeps our joints lubricated. With each sip, we embrace the power of hydration, fueling our vitality and supporting optimal physical and mental function. Make it a habit. You body and mind will thank you. Shake that booty with regular exercise: Who says aging means slowing down? Not us! I have finally Incorporated regular exercise into my routine, and I love it! Muscle is the number one biomarker for health- So move. Exercise is the key to maintaining muscle and keeping a youthful glow. I love to do a weight class called Body Pump, I enjoy T’ai Chi Chih, I love the rowing machine and I take a Fit 4 Life class. You can try them and anything else. You get to decide what works for you. Whether it's a brisk walk in the park, a dance class, or some gentle yoga stretches, find something you enjoy and get moving. Your body will thank you for it! Don’t forget the doctor's orders: Visiting the doctor may not be the most exciting thing on your to-do list, but it's crucial for maintaining your health as you age. Three years ago my doctor told me “I can raise your blood pressure medication or you can go for a walk. The choice is yours.” I chose the walk. That was over 60 pounds ago. My blood work is so much better than it was back then. In fact, the only medication I take now is for my thyroid. Regular check-ups and screenings can catch any issues early on and keep you feeling fabulous for years to come. Plus, it's an excellent excuse to dress up and show off your stylish outfits! It's not just for beauty… Sleep is the real deal: You've heard it a million times, but it's worth repeating: beauty sleep is essential! Aim for a solid 7 to 9 hours of shut-eye each night to keep those wrinkles at bay and maintain a radiant complexion. I go to bed early and wear an eye mask. I track my sleep with an Oura ring. I keep my room nice and cool. Set yourself up for success. It's the ultimate but necessary indulgence. Positivity is the fountain of youth: Keep that positive mindset shining bright! Embrace silver linings, find joy in the little things, and let your infectious smile light up the world. Start each morning with the Green Focus Power Hour (GFPH): read, journal, affirm, visualize, meditate, and move. These six exercises, 10 minutes each, can truly transform your life. Read anything positive that helps you grow—write, letters to friends, God, or even your future self. Write about the book you’re reading. Anything goes. Write for 10 minutes a day. Onto affirmations. If speaking affirmations is a challenge, write them down first. Stand in front of a mirror for an extra boost. Visualize your future, your dreams coming true. Meditate or find peace for 10 minutes, using guided meditations or quiet reflection. Lastly, move your body—walk, go to the gym, or do exercises that feel right for you. Be consistent with the Green Focus Power Hour to set your day. This will set the day for you. Love and laughter never get old: I love to laugh. Staying connected to your loved ones is like a magical elixir for your soul. Surround yourself with friends, family, and those who make you laugh until your cheeks hurt. Plan movie nights, weekend getaways, or simply catch up over a cup of tea. If you are far away there is facetime and zoom. Make sure you are spending time with people that support you. Sharing love and laughter keeps your heart forever young. Keep that brain working: They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I beg to differ! Challenge yourself! Learn something new every day. Pick up a musical instrument, delve into a foreign language, or explore a hobby you've always been curious about. I love a good crossword puzzle and I enjoy playing strategic card games. I am constantly learning new thing on the computer. Your brain is a muscle that thrives on stimulation and keeping it active will keep you sharp and vibrant. Eating with purpose Food is more than just fuel—it's a delicious opportunity to nourish your body and soul. Embrace a balanced, healthy diet filled with colorful fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. And don't forget to treat yourself to the occasional indulgence! Chase your passions… aka Dream Aging gracefully means never losing sight of what makes your heart sing. I call these the desires of your heart. Stay connected to your purpose. Find the time to do what you love, whether it's painting, gardening, writing, or anything that sets your soul on fire. Nurture your passions and watch as they add a touch of magic and purpose to each day. Embrace your unique style: Fashion knows no age limits! Embrace your unique style and dress to express yourself. Whether you prefer timeless classics or bold, trendy ensembles, wear what makes you feel confident and fabulous. For the first time in my life, well since Catholic Schoolgirl uniform, I have been wearing dresses most days. I’ve got to say, feel great. Own your style because you're a walking masterpiece! Embody self-love, always: Last but certainly not least, remember to love and cherish yourself throughout this beautiful journey called life. Embrace your and celebrate your uniqueness. Self-love is the ultimate secret ingredient to aging gracefully, and it's time to sprinkle it all over your life like confetti. Live every day on purpose, Peggy Romero
